Since hearing input from residents in September regarding the West Avenue Bridge proposed over the Collins Canal, FDOT and City officials will be presenting plans for public comment next week. Several concepts with alternative bridge widths comprised of various lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes will be presented. An alternative in which no bridge is constructed will also be discussed. This meeting originally planned for December, but has been moved up to Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at the Miami Beach Regional Library at 227 22 Street. Belle Isle Ranks "Very Walkable" as a Neighborhood
According to the website http://www.walkscore.com/, Belle Isle scores 77 out of 100 for its prime location. The website score is the result of Belle Isle's proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets, bars and other amenities.
We all know that walking is good for the environment, but there are other benefits of living in a neighborhood such as Belle Isle. The website claims that the average resident of a walkable neighborhood weighs 7 pounds less than someone who lives in a sprawling neighborhood. And a recent study shows that homes in a neighborhood with above average levels of walkability command $4000-$34,000 over homes in areas with average levels of walkability. Here's a link to that report: http://blog.walkscore.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/WalkingTheWalk_CEOsforCities.pdf.
Contact me and I can tell you many other things that make Belle Isle a great place to live.
